History

Chikuzen-Maebaru Station opened on 1 April 1924 as Maebaru Station, the eastern terminus of the private Kitakyushu Railway. The line was extended further east on 15 April 1925, making the station an intermediate stop. On 1 October 1937 the Kitakyushu Railway was nationalised; Japanese Government Railways renamed it Chikuzen-Maebaru and renamed the line the Chikuhi Line. The line was electrified on 22 March 1983 and through-running with the Fukuoka City Subway began, with Fukuoka subway trains turning back here. The station joined JR Kyushu on 1 April 1987 at privatisation, and a new elevated station building opened on 19 December 1999.
