History

Cable Yase Station opened on 20 December 1925 as "Saitōbashi Station" with the opening of the Kyoto Dentō Eizan Cable Line. It passed to Keifuku Electric Railroad on 2 March 1942, and in 1944, as the Pacific War intensified, it was suspended along with the line as a non-essential, non-urgent line; it reopened along with the resumption of operations in 1946. Following the opening of Yase Yūen amusement park in front of the station in 1964, it was renamed Cable Yase Yūen Station on 1 August 1965, and after the amusement park closed in 2001, it was renamed the present Cable Yase Station on 10 March 2002, the following year. It is the lower terminal station of the Eizan Cable (funicular line), and closes along with the line every winter, from early December to mid-March.

Notes

The station building dates from its 1925 opening and, with detail alterations, is still in use today; a tourist information window stands beside the ticket machine, and in a distinctive operating practice, the gate opens only five minutes before departure.
