History
Cable Hiei Station is the terminal station of the Keifuku Electric Railroad Cable Line (Eizan Cable) in Sakyō-ku, Kyoto, opened on 20 December 1925 as "Shimeigatake Station" with the opening of the Kyoto Dentō Eizan Cable Line. It was transferred to Keifuku Electric Railroad on 2 March 1942, becoming a station of that company; it was suspended from service in 1944 as a non-essential, non-urgent line, and reopened in 1946. It was renamed to its present name, Cable Hiei Station, on 1 August 1965. It is a stepped, ground-level station with a head-type platform arrangement of two platform faces and one track, and closes along with the line every winter (from early December to mid-March, except for the first three days of the New Year).
Notes
Cable Hiei is the upper terminus of the Eizan funicular and shuts down with the rest of the line every winter (early December to mid-March, excluding the New Year's holidays); it is also adjacent to Rope Hiei on the Eizan Ropeway, providing the standard transfer between the two systems.
