History

Buzen-Ōkuma Station opened on 1 October 1942 as a passenger station of the Sangyō Cement Railway. It became a station of the Ministry of Railways through wartime nationalization in July 1943, and freight handling began after the war, in January 1951, but was discontinued in May 1968. Parcel handling was discontinued in March 1974, with the station becoming unstaffed at the same time. It passed to Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu) at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways in April 1987, and was transferred to the Heisei Chikuho Railway on 1 October 1989. From 1 April 2009, Mr. Max Corporation, which operates the discount store chain "MrMax," acquired naming rights, giving the station the subsidiary nickname "MrMax Buzen-Ōkuma Station." It is located in Itoda, Tagawa District, Fukuoka Prefecture, has station number HC51, and is an unstaffed station with a single side platform serving one track.

Notes

Until around 1998 a small station building stood, still bearing traces of a staffed ticket gate, but it no longer exists. Since the staffed gate had already closed by the time of the transfer to the Heisei Chikuho Railway, the station operated as a staffed station only up through the Japanese National Railways era.
