History

Japanese Government Railways' Railway Bureau opened Buzen-Nagasu Station on 22 April 1911 as an added stop along the existing Hōshū Main Line, in present-day Usa City, Ōita Prefecture. The line was renamed the Nippō Main Line on 15 December 1923. Freight handling ceased on 1 October 1961, parcels on 1 February 1984, and the station was unstaffed from 1 November 1984. JR Kyushu took over at JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987, and the original 1911-vintage wooden station building still survives as the waiting room. SUGOCA IC cards became usable for entry and exit on 1 December 2012, though they cannot be topped up or bought at the station. A 17 March 2018 timetable change ended the calling of rapid trains.

Notes

The wooden station building dating from the 1911 opening is still in use as the waiting room, even though the station itself has been unstaffed since 1984.
