History
Ayukawa Station opened on 1 August 1922, built by the Yokojō Railway in Ayukawa village, Yuri County — now part of Yurihonjō, Akita Prefecture. Nationalized into the Japanese Government Railways' Yashima Line on 1 September 1937, the station was renamed Ugo-Ayukawa Station, keeping that name through the 1 June 1949 formation of Japanese National Railways. Privatization on 1 October 1985 transferred the line to the third-sector Yuri Kōgen Railway as the Chōkai Sanroku Line, restoring the station's original name. Its current building dates from December 2003. Today the unattended station has a single side platform on one bidirectional track — it formerly had a passing loop — about 7.4 kilometers from the line's terminus at Ugo-Honjō Station.
Notes
In 2018 a crowdfunding campaign raised about 5,285,000 yen to redevelop the station's surroundings ahead of the opening of the nearby Mt. Chōkai Wooden Toy Museum, converting the roofed bicycle shed beside the station building into a children's waiting room.
