History
Awa-Tomida Station opened on 1 November 1986. It was initially treated as a year-round temporary station and has been unstaffed since opening. From 1934 to 1941, before the war, the Ministry of Railways' Komatsushima Line had a station, Tomidaura Station, at almost the same location, so this station is positioned as effectively its revival. It became a station of Shikoku Railway Company (JR Shikoku) at the 1 April 1987 division and privatization of Japanese National Railways. A short-distance ticket vending machine was installed around 1996, and the station sees heavy use, mainly by high school students, as the nearest station to the Tokushima Prefectural Government. With the 15 March 2025 timetable revision, the limited express 'Muroto' ceased operation, ending all limited-express service at this station. Its station number is M01.
