History

Atago Station is a railway station in Noda, Chiba Prefecture, operated by Tobu Railway and numbered TD-16 on the Tobu Urban Park Line, linking Ōmiya, Saitama Prefecture, and Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture. It opened on 1 September 1929 on the Hokusō Railway's Noda Line; the company was renamed Sōbu Railway later that year, and Tobu Railway absorbed it on 1 March 1944 under the Land Transportation Business Adjustment Act, and the line became the Tobu Urban Park Line in 2014. Elevation work from fiscal 2008 replaced side platforms and a footbridge with an elevated structure of two opposed platforms with escalators and elevators, completed 28 March 2021. Named after Atago Shrine to its west, with city hall, police, and fire departments to its east.

Notes

The area west of the station forms part of a Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry–certified "modern industrial heritage" cluster tied to Noda's soy sauce brewing history, running from the Kinoene Soy Sauce head office toward the Kikkoman head office near the next station.
