History

Asuwa Station opened on 20 May 1964 as a petitioned in-fill stop on the Japanese National Railways Etsumi-Hoku Line, between Rokujō and Echizen-Tōgō, in what is today the city of Fukui in Fukui Prefecture. The station has been unstaffed since opening. It passed to JR West on 1 April 1987 at the privatisation of JNR. Torrential rain on 18 July 2004 suspended services over the whole Etsumi-Hoku Line, and trains returned to the Echizen-Hanandō–Ichijōdani section, which includes the station, on 11 September 2004. The station consists of a single ground-level side platform with a small shelter and no ticket machine.
