History
Asakawa Station opened on 1 October 1973 as a station on the Japanese National Railways' Mugi Line, at Asakawa-Ina, Kaiyō, Kaifu District, Tokushima Prefecture. It was unstaffed from opening, and became a station of JR Shikoku at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. From 18 July 2020, service between Mugi and Kaifu was switched to substitute buses for construction related to the start of DMV (dual mode vehicle) operation by the Asa Coast Railway, and on 1 November of that year the section between Awa-Kainan and Kaifu was transferred to the Asa Coast Railway's Asatō Line. Train service between Mugi and Awa-Kainan resumed on 1 February 2021, and from 1 April 2022 JR Shikoku and Tokushima Bus began jointly operating the "Muroto/Ikumi/Anan-Osaka Line" highway bus between Anan and Asakawa, making it possible to ride the bus over that section using a JR ticket.
Notes
The station sits atop an embankment along National Route 55 and has no station building; the restroom, bicycle parking, and car parking are at the foot of the embankment, and only the platform appears at the top of a ramp, giving it the simple appearance typical of a local station in southern Tokushima Prefecture.
