History

Asahino Station opened on 28 December 1900 as a stop on what is now the Ohmi Railway Main Line, serving Higashiōmi in Shiga Prefecture. The unstaffed station has a single side platform serving a single bi-directional track, although it once had two opposed platforms with two tracks. There is no station building, only a shelter on the platform. The platform straddles the boundary between Higashiōmi and the neighbouring town of Hino. The station was planned to serve the never-built Biwako Airport.

Notes

Asahino was designated as the projected nearest railway station to Biwako Airport, a planned airport that was eventually abandoned before construction.
