Location
History
Arakawaoki Station opened on 25 December 1896 on what is now the Jōban Line, in the city of Tsuchiura, Ibaraki. It is located 57.2 kilometres from the nominal start of the line at Nippori Station, and is an elevated station with two opposed side platforms and a Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office. Operation of the station passed to JR East on 1 April 1987 at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways. On 23 March 2008 a man went on a stabbing spree with two knives in the passageway linking the station to a nearby shopping street, killing one person and injuring seven others.
