History

Anihata Station opened on 17 October 1931 as a station of the Ministry of Railways in Tayama Village, Ninohe District. Freight handling ended in 1970, and parcel handling ended on 1 October 1971, when the station was also unstaffed. It passed to JR East at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, and was rebuilt with a simple station building in 2000. On 1 June 2018, with Ōbuke Station's move to contracted staffing, its managing station was changed to Morioka Station, and the eki-net Q-ticket service began there on 1 October 2024. It is an at-grade station with a single side platform serving one track; it formerly had two opposed platforms serving two tracks and could accommodate train passing. The prefectural border with Akita Prefecture lies just west of the station.

Notes

The prefectural boundary between Iwate and Akita lies immediately west of the platform, so trains cross between prefectures within a short distance of stopping.
