Location

History

Amagasaki Station opened on 12 April 1905 with the launch of the Hanshin Main Line. Operated by Hanshin Electric Railway as station HS-09 in Amagasaki, Hyōgo Prefecture, it also anchors the Hanshin Namba Line, whose predecessor (the Denpo Line, later renamed the Nishi-Osaka Line) reached the station in 1928 and was itself renamed and extended to Osaka Namba in 2009. The station was elevated onto a viaduct in 1963 and rebuilt between 2003 and 2009 for the Namba Line extension, emerging with four island platforms across six tracks. It is the only stop east of Kobe-Sannomiya served by every Hanshin train category, and a separate JR West station of the same name lies nearby but requires a bus transfer.

Notes

In 2003 and 2005, Amagasaki Central Park beside the station hosted outdoor public viewings of the Hanshin Tigers' pennant-clinching games, drawing crowds of several thousand for a traditional sake-barrel-opening celebration.
