History

Aki-Nakano Station was established as Nakano signal box on 13 July 1917 by the Railway Bureau (Tetsudōin) on the Sanyō Main Line between Seno and Kaitaichi stations, and was upgraded to a station on 15 August 1920, beginning passenger and freight handling as Aki-Nakano Station. Freight operations ended in 1960 and baggage handling in 1985. From 1973 it became a station within the "Hiroshima City area" under the JR special metropolitan/city zone fare system, and it passed to West Japan Railway Company at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. ICOCA was introduced in 2007, and barrier-free access was completed in 2011. The station was temporarily suspended by the July 2018 heavy rain disaster, and the permanent stationing of staff was discontinued in August 2024.

Notes

In ICOCA usage history records, the station name appears as "Aki Nakano," with "Aki" rendered in katakana rather than kanji.
