History

Akikawajiri Station opened on 24 November 1935, when the Railway Ministry's Kure Line was extended between Mitsu-Uchiumi Station (now Yasuura Station) and Hiro Station. Freight handling was discontinued in 1963 and baggage handling in 1985, and the station became a station of West Japan Railway Company (JR West) at the division and privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The ICOCA IC card became usable there on 1 September 2007, and the station became unstaffed on 1 April 2022. It is located in Kawajirichō-nishi 2-chōme, Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, station number JR-Y19. It is an at-grade station with one island platform and two tracks that allows trains to pass one another; the station building stands on the east side of the tracks and is linked to the platform by a footbridge.

Notes

In ICOCA usage records, the station name appears as "Aki Kawajiri" (with "Aki" in katakana), distinguishing it from a similarly named station.
