History

Akasaki Station opened on 28 August 1903 as a station handling both passengers and freight, with the government railway's extension from Yabase Station (now Urayasu Station) to Mikuriya Station. It was placed on the San'in Main Line under the line-naming system established on 12 October 1909. Freight handling ended on 10 December 1972 and parcel handling on 1 November 1986. It passed to JR West with the division and privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987. The ticket window closed on 12 March 2021, and ICOCA is scheduled to be introduced in spring 2027. It is a ground-level station with mixed side and island platforms, two platforms and three tracks, unstaffed, with its wooden station building still standing.

Notes

Under Tottori Prefecture's 2003 railway speed-up project, the junction on the Tottori side was converted to a single-track-through layout, so that passing trains now run through on track 1, on the side-platform side.
