History
Akasakata Station opened on 10 November 1926 as a Japanese National Railways station in Arasawa Village, Ninohe District. Freight handling ended on 1 April 1970, and parcel handling ended on 15 November 1982, when the station became unstaffed. It passed to JR East at the privatisation of the national railway on 1 April 1987. The station building was rebuilt in a simplified form in 2000, and on 1 June 2018 its supervising station changed to Morioka Station when Ōbuke Station was contracted out. Eki-net Q-ticket service began on 1 October 2024. It is a ground-level station with a single side platform serving one track; it formerly had two facing platforms serving two tracks and could handle train crossings.
Notes
The station once had a passing loop with two opposed platforms, though only a single side platform now remains in use.
