Location
History
Akasaka Station opened on 26 July 1981 on the Fukuoka City Subway's Airport Line. It is station K07, between Ōhorikōen and Tenjin stations, in the Akasaka area of Chūō-ku, Fukuoka. Its symbol, a red track-and-field athlete shaped like the katakana ア, the first character of Akasaka's name, was designed by Fukuoka-born graphic artist Isao Nishijima as a marathon runner, alluding to the Fukuoka Marathon, whose start and finish line is at Heiwadai Athletic Stadium, 600 meters away. The station is underground, with one island platform serving two tracks. Since 1 April 2014, its operations have been contracted to Nishitetsu Station Service. Nearby are the Fukuoka High and District Courts, the Fukuoka Legal Affairs Bureau, city government offices, and Maizuru Park.
Notes
Tokyo has its own Akasaka Station, in Minato-ku, on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line, which coincidentally also once ran regular service with 103-series electric trains, just like this Fukuoka Akasaka Station.
