History

Ajigasawa Station is on JR East's Gonō Line in Maitomachi, Ajigasawa, Aomori Prefecture. It opened on 15 May 1925 and passed to JR East on 1 April 1987 with the privatisation of JNR. Cargo handling ended on 2 March 1983 and parcel handling on 14 March 1985. The station was renovated in 1991. From 1 April 2003 station operations were contracted to the Hirosaki Station Building (later JR East Tohoku General Service from 2015). The station has dual side platforms with a footbridge and a Midori-no-Madoguchi ticket office.

Notes

Ajigasawa appointed the "ugly-cute" Akita dog Wasao as its tourism station-master on 20 April 2011, and reappointed him each year thereafter. His mate Tsubaki was deputy station-master until the 2019 fiscal year and died in May 2019, while their daughter Chome has been sales chief since the 2019 fiscal year. Wasao held the post until he died of multiple organ failure on 8 June 2020, after which a memorial panel exhibition ran in the station waiting room until 31 August that year.
