Location

History

Aizu-Mizunuma Station opened on 20 September 1956 as an intermediate stop on the Japanese National Railways (JNR) Tadami Line, added when the line was extended from Aizu-Miyashita to Aizu-Kawaguchi. Located in the town of Kaneyama, Ōnuma District, Fukushima Prefecture, the unstaffed station has a single side platform, with a distinctive wooden station building standing apart from the platform on its south side. It came under East Japan Railway Company (JR East) control with the 1987 privatization of JNR. The Niigata–Fukushima torrential rain of 30 July 2011 forced the suspension of services; replacement buses ran between Aizu-Miyashita and Aizu-Ōshio by way of the station from 26 August, and trains between Aizu-Miyashita and Aizu-Kawaguchi resumed on 3 December 2011.

Notes

The station building was swept away in the July 2011 floods and was later rebuilt on the same spot to almost the same shape.
