History
Aioi Station opened on 8 December 1929 as Mino-Aioi Station, when the Railway Ministry's Etsumi-Nan Line opened between Fukado and Gujō-Hachiman, as a staffed station handling both passengers and freight. Freight service ended on 1 October 1974, and on 1 December that year baggage handling ended, leaving it unstaffed. Before then the line was run by Japanese National Railways; it was listed for closure in 1984 but was transferred, on 11 December 1986, to the third-sector Nagaragawa Railway, when the station took its present name. It has one ground-level side platform, a wooden station building, a toilet and bicycle parking, but no ticket machine, and carries station number 24 on the Etsumi-Nan Line, between Fukado (23) and Gujō-Hachiman (25).
Notes
The station is said to have inspired the fictional Aioi Station in Shirow Shiratori's light novel Nourin, and face-cutout photo panels of its characters have been displayed at the station since 2013.
