History
Aikawa Station opened on 10 December 1934 as Ugo-Kamiōno Station, serving the village of Kami-Ōno in Kita-Akita District, Akita, on a state-railway branch line (the Aniai Line) that was extended to Aniai Station by 25 September 1936. It was renamed Aikawa on 1 April 1956. With the conversion of the route on 1 November 1986, the station passed from JNR to the third-sector Akita Nairiku Jūkan Railway, becoming a stop on what is now the Akita Nairiku Line. It has a single island platform connected to the wooden station building by a level crossing, and is a simplified-consignment station run under contract by the city of Kitaakita, with a waiting room and a ticket window in the building.
Notes
A 1955 fire that began at the then Ugo-Kamiono Station spread to the surrounding shopping district and destroyed 51 buildings in total.
