History
Abukuma Station opened on 1 July 1988 on the Abukuma Express Line, operated by the third-sector operator AbukumaExpress, and sits 29.4 rail kilometres from the line's official starting point at Fukushima. The station, the southernmost in Miyagi Prefecture, stands beside the Abukuma River with no villages or houses around it. Its distinctive octagonal building doubles as a ticket office for the adjacent Abukuma Line riverboat pier, where sightseeing cruises run between April and November. The station is unstaffed and has a single side platform.
Notes
The station has no village around it, standing beside the pier for the Abukuma Line sightseeing boats, and in 2002 it was named one of the 100 representative stations of the Tōhoku region.
