History

Abekawa Station is a passenger-only station newly opened on 14 March 1985 between Shizuoka and Mochimune stations on the Japanese National Railways Tōkaidō Main Line. It passed to Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) at the privatization of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. TOICA IC card service began on 1 March 2008, and a new station building came into use on 6 September 2015. It is an at-grade station with two opposing side platforms serving two tracks, with a simple station building on an overpass connecting the east and west sides of the site; it is currently a contracted-operation station managed by Shizuoka Station. The station's name comes from the Abe River, a first-class river flowing nearby.
